OpenFlow Conformance Testing Program

The OpenFlow switch specification is the first SDN standard which provides a consistent way for controllers to communicate with OpenFlow-enabled hardware or software switches. As an Open Networking Foundation-accredited international testing facility, CNLABS provides OpenFlow conformance testing services to clients worldwide through the OpenFlow Conformance Testing Program. The certification program offers SDN switch vendors an opportunity to demonstrate compliance with the OpenFlow specification and get their products certified for OpenFlow compliance from ONF.

Why Certify?

Obtaining certification provides significant market advantages for SDN switch vendors, including:

  • Increased customer confidence: Demonstrates a commitment to industry standards and interoperability.
  • Better brand value: Provides a distinct competitive advantage in the global SDN market.
  • Marketing Collaterals: Grants the right to use official logos on certified products and promotional materials.
  • ONF Listing: Inclusion of certified products on the official ONF website for global visibility.

For more details on these benefits, you can visit the ONF certification page.

Program Overview

CNLABS supports multiple versions of the OpenFlow specification, allowing for tailored certification based on the specific implementation of the switch hardware or software.

Program Version Base Specification Available Profiles
OpenFlow 1.0 Conformance OpenFlow 1.0.1 Switch Spec Full, Layer 2, or Layer 3 Profiles
OpenFlow 1.3 Conformance OpenFlow 1.3.4 Switch Spec Single Table “Base Profile”

All ONF and non-ONF member companies are eligible to participate in these conformance test programs. This inclusivity ensures that the entire networking ecosystem can move toward standardized SDN communication protocols.
